Lap Pool Facts–Strokes And Distance
Let’s assume that a freestyle swimmer executes 20 strokes per lap in a 50 meter pool. At 20 strokes per 50m (165 feet) a swimmer would execute 1 stroke every 8.5 feet. Subtracting 15 feet for push out, the freestyler would execute 17 consecutive strokes per lap. Following this scenario, a typical 30 foot long residential swimming pool would allow for 2 to 3 consecutive strokes before turning around and pushing out from the end of the pool.
